"Sunflower" belongs to the group of paintings executed in Litzlberg on Lake Attersee. On the grounds of a brewery was the Mayr-Hof with a beautiful cottage garden. Emilie Flöge posed in front of the flowers for fashion photography and some go as far as interpreting the "Sunflower" as a portrait of Emilie Flöge. The cohesive appearance of the flower would correspond to her character and her relationship with Klimt.
